Jessica Furr is the founder of Lawgorithm Advisors, a startup and venture capital law firm based in Miami, Florida. Built for founders, operators, and investors, the firm provides sharp, high-caliber counsel across the full startup lifecycle — from formation and financing to corporate governance, commercial agreements, and venture capital transactions. Her tagline says it simply: "Legal Logic for Creators."
I asked Jessica what led her to start her own firm.
"I found myself wanting to be my own boss and control my own day," she told me. "To be creative and have the ability to build something that was my own business. So I figured it was a good time to take a risk and put myself out there and go for it."
She came to that decision after years in big law and four years in-house — a path that gave her a clear picture of what she wanted and what she didn't.
Lawgorithm operates on what Jessica calls a modular model: clients get her directly, and she builds a bespoke team of co-counsel and subject matter experts around each matter as needed. It keeps costs down and brings in the right expertise without the overhead of a full-service firm.
"The big box law firm model is like a Walmart — you go there for any little thing you need," she said. "But there's still a way to achieve well-rounded representation without having to deal with the cost of having everything under the same roof."
The name Lawgorithm reflects her belief that complex legal issues can be broken down and made digestible — the way an algorithm processes inputs into outputs — and her genuine love for the creative world she serves. The model also shapes the client experience in a way she didn't fully anticipate.
"It feels like clients are very grateful for a lot of the attention that we give them because it's a close relationship. You have fewer clients and you want to do really good service for those clients."
She also runs The LawVerse, a pop law blog covering startup and venture law for people who don't read law reviews — practical insight for the founders and creators she works with every day.
When I asked what she'd want other founders to take from her story, she came back to something she sees in the best founders she works with every day.
"Lean into what you are. Maybe that's not what other people want you to be, but there is probably a need for that in this world."
When I asked what she'd want people to know about Lawgorithm, her answer was simple.
"Try to do our best by our clients and do really good quality work and be creative and be good people to work with," she said. "That's the most important thing at the end of the day — to like the people you work with. There are no attitudes. What you see is what you get."
