Two people with the same title, locked in a stalemate neither can win.
The conflict isn't loud. It's cold. Tense. Every interaction feels like contested territory.
And everyone watching assumes it's about personality. Strong people who can't collaborate. Egos clashing. Poor communication skills.
But, is that what's happening?
What if you step back and strip away the mainstream assumptions — "oh they don't like each other" or "personality conflict"? Might there be something structural making the conflict inevitable?
One person operates like they're in charge. The other has no idea why they're supposed to listen. Neither can point to anything that settles it. So they're stuck asking questions that have no clear answers: Do I actually have to listen to this person? Why does this person think they can tell me what to do? Am I being difficult, or are they overstepping?
The frustration builds because there's nowhere to go with it. Nothing to escalate. No line to point to that says who's right. And no one wants to be known as the one to complain.
Then one day there is an explosion. Looks and feels personal, might just be at that point. But it started somewhere else entirely.
If you're watching two people with the same title locked in a pattern like this, you're not seeing a personality problem. You're seeing something break that should never have been left unclear in the first place.
